2018 Honoree: Sen. Bruce Tarr
Born in Gloucester, Senator Bruce Tarr has served in the Senate since 1995, representing the 1st Essex and Middlesex District, which includes Action Inc.’s entire service area. Today he serves as the Senate Minority leader and is universally recognized as a committed and effective legislator.
His constituents know him as an engaged and conscientious representative and a champion of important local causes. At Action Inc. we are lucky to have had a long friendship with Sen. Tarr, sharing a mission to improve lives for all on Cape Ann. He has supported vital Action Inc. programs and takes a keen interest in the work of our Energy Services team. We are also fortunate to work closely with the Senator and his team during Project Uplift, Cape Ann’s largest holiday toy drive.
We are excited to be honoring Sen. Tarr for the wonderful work he has done for our community.
For more than 25 years, Action Inc.’s Project Uplift toy drive has been providing holiday gifts for local families in need. Dozens of local businesses and organizations act as collection sites and hundreds of volunteers donate new toys and clothes, meaning parents can choose the gifts that will make the holidays special for their families.
Every December, Sen. Tarr’s office swings into action, organizing a mammoth, all-day tour of sites across the North Shore to promote the toy drive and collecting hundreds of gifts – all broadcast live on North Shore 104.9! Sen. Tarr’s energy and enthusiasm (even after 12 straight hours of broadcasting!) is a testament to his commitment to worthy causes, and the constituents he serves.
