Action Inc. has made the difficult decision to transition its HomeCare program to Gloucester-based provider, ABC Home Healthcare, starting January 31, 2018. No other Action Inc. programs or services will be affected.
Over the next few months, we will work together with ABC Home Healthcare to make the transition as smooth as possible for our clients and our staff. We are confident that we have found an excellent partner in ABC Home Healthcare, who shares our same values and will continue the good work in the community.
Since our founding in 1965, we have always had a special commitment to Cape Ann seniors. We operated the first Meals on Wheels program in the 1960s, began training home health workers in the 1970s, and provide a range of services to help seniors maintain independence and stay in their own homes. When we began providing home care, Action Inc. was one of the first providers in the state of Massachusetts to offer these services. There were inadequate services for seniors and, because of our mission and commitment to address our community’s specific needs, we stepped in.
Over time, the home care industry has evolved and home care is no longer an unmet need in our service area. There are now a number of agencies also providing home care to the same population of seniors. The home care industry has also changed dramatically over the years, making it increasingly difficult for Action Inc. to run a viable home care program within a larger social service agency. However, we will continue to offer its other vital services such as fuel assistance, housing services, adult education, weatherization, job training, etc. No other Action Inc. programs are closing.
We are extremely grateful to our clients and our agency partners SeniorCare, Element Care, Commonwealth Care SCO Alliance, Massachusetts Rehabilitation Commission, and Massachusetts Commission for the Blind for their support and collaboration over the years. But most importantly we want to thank the Action Inc. HomeCare staff, whose hard work and tireless commitment to seniors have been a tremendous asset to our agency. We have been very fortunate to have the best home care workers around. We know that our staff will continue their exceptional care to local seniors in their new roles at ABC Home Healthcare.
