While this cold weather might be expected as we get into the last weeks of October, a new study by the U.S. Energy Information Administration finds that an increase in heating costs might take some by surprise.
While there will be modest increases in gas (3%) and electricity (5%) heating costs, the biggest jump will be felt by those heating their homes with oil. According to the cost forecast, the average oil heating costs will increase by almost 20% this winter. This means the average homeowner who heats with oil will fork out $1,646 this winter to heat their home.
