The United Way of Massachusetts Bay and Merrimack Valley today announced Action Inc. will be among its strategic grant recipients in 2018. Across the region, United Way will distribute a total of $30.8 million in support of strategies, organizations, partnerships, and programs aimed at solving entrenched poverty and income inequality. As a trusted source for identifying effective programs and strategies, United Way will award strategic grants to a total of 146 non-profit partners, distribute dollars designated by donors to organizations in the region, as well as fund innovative initiatives and public policy work.
Action Inc. was selected as a partner due to the strength and impact of its programming for at-risk youth, and homelessness prevention services for individuals and families. Action Inc. and the United Way will work together in the coming years to access new funding, build partnerships to improve and extend services, and build capacity across the entire region.
“Putting people first is our main priority at United Way,” said Krissy Davis, a Board Member of United Way of Massachusetts Bay and Merrimack Valley. “Through very strategic partnerships with our community-based organizations, we can do more to effect real change that empowers more people to find opportunity, provides more solid foundations for our young people to thrive, and gives the tools for upward mobility to those that need the help the most.”
“We are absolutely thrilled to be selected as a United Way Partner”, said Action Inc.’s Executive Director, Peggy Hegarty-Steck. “We are excited to partner with their team to have an even greater impact on the community we serve and to further our shared values.”
“Being selected as a partner is really important to us,” said Joe McEvoy, Action Inc.’s Director of Planning and Development. “This was a competitive process and to be selected from 200 applicants is a real sign that the work we do is high quality and impactful.”
