Quincy: Driven to Succeed

Growing up in Boston, Quincy had never heard of Gloucester. He came here to join his girlfriend – now wife – because he was seeking a fresh start after navigating some serious obstacles.

Things weren’t easy. The couple hit a rough patch, and Quincy found himself with nowhere to stay. That’s when he turned to Action Inc.’s Emergency Shelter. “I never felt homeless while staying there,” he said. “It was a real home.”

While living at our shelter, Quincy connected with Action Inc.’s Job Training & Career Services Program. Quincy wanted to return to commercial driving.

He asked our team: “What’s the catch? What does this cost?” Their response stuck with him: “Your success is the cost.”

We helped him enroll in a commercial driver training program, which he attended while staying at our shelter. “Action even gave me gas cards to attend classes in North Andover,” Quincy said.
After graduating, we helped Quincy create a resume, search for jobs, and connect with local businesses.

In January, he landed a great job. Quincy is proud to work at a national waste management company, earning a living wage plus benefits. “Trash, yeah, it’s smelly and disgusting work, but it’s also essential,” Quincy said. “I am essential to communities.”

“Action Inc. opened the door,” said Quincy. “I had to put in the work, but it was well worth it because of the support I got at Action Inc.”
