Energy Services Program Expansion

Gloucester, MA, September 19, 2022 — Action Inc., a local non-profit serving the greater Cape Ann area for more than 50 years, is proud to announce the expansion of their Energy Services program to 31 cities and towns in Massachusetts.

Action Inc. Energy Services now provides no-cost energy efficiency services to eligible residents of Amesbury, Beverly, Boxford, Danvers, Essex, Georgetown, Gloucester, Groveland, Hamilton, Haverhill, Ipswich, Lynn, Lynnfield, Manchester-by-the-Sea, Marblehead, Merrimac, Middleton, Nahant, Newbury, Newburyport, Peabody, Rockport, Rowley, Salem, Salisbury, Saugus, Swampscott, Topsfield, Wakefield, Wenham, and West Newbury.

The program is designed to help people save money on their energy bills, lower their housing costs, and stay comfortable in their homes year-round. Services include weather stripping and insulation, heating system repairs and replacements, and appliance upgrades. The program is completely cost-free from start to finish and is available to eligible renters, homeowners, and landlords.

Action Inc.’s CEO, Peggy Hegarty-Steck, said Action’s energy efficiency services have been successfully serving Cape Ann since the 1970s. “For decades, our program has provided thousands of Cape Ann residents with high quality energy efficiency measures that improve their homes and help stretch their incomes,” Hegarty-Steck said. “With energy costs rising and critical climate goals on the horizon, consolidating energy services regionally will allow us to streamline services and reach even more households at a pivotal time.”

As one of several Community Action Agencies committed to fighting poverty across the state, Action Inc. worked closely with its sister agencies North Shore Community Action Program (NSCAP) in Peabody and LEO in Lynn to transition and consolidate these energy efficiency services under Action Inc. “We have always enjoyed strong partnership in the region and consolidation of these services made a lot of sense for all three organizations,” Hegarty-Steck said. NSCAP and LEO continue to provide fuel assistance as well as a robust range of other critical community services on the North Shore.

In addition to their Gloucester offices, Action Inc. recently opened a new office in Peabody to better serve its broader Energy Services area. They have also launched a user-friendly website, actionincenergy.org, to help provide more information about their services.

If you are not sure if you qualify, the website will guide you through the process based on which city or town you live in. To be eligible for energy efficiency services, residents must receive fuel assistance through Action Inc., NSCAP, LEO, or Community Action Inc. in Haverhill. Residents are also eligible if they receive a discounted rate on their National Grid bill.

The mission of Action Inc. is to build an equitable and resilient community by creating opportunities for all. Action Inc. is a non-profit organization and member of the Community Action Partnership, a nationwide network of more than 1,000 similar agencies that are dedicated to helping people in need and eliminating poverty in the United States.
