Substitute teach adult second language learners and native speakers the basic components of English. The ability to substitute teach math is a plus, but not required. Demonstrate the ability to teach to various levels.
Essential duties and responsibilities:
- Teach the lesson plan as outlined by the instructor. If the long-term need for a substitute arises, demonstrate the ability to develop and implement one’s own lesson plan.
- Maintain records of attendance and grades, as applicable.
- Maintain strong communication with the Adult Education Coordinator.
- Act in the best interest of the organization, reflecting the values of teamwork, collaboration, and mutual respect.
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
- TESOL/ TEFL certification and/or bachelor’s degree in teaching and/or 1 year of experience in a related position
- Experience with Evidence Based Reading Instruction (alphabetics and fluency components) preferred
- Ability to relate and to work with students from diverse cultural backgrounds.
- Knowledge of instructional materials and methods used for adult education.
- Knowledge of curriculum design and development.
Physical Demands: Must be able to lift, move and carry 10 lbs.
