Action Energy: You may be eligible for the following energy discounts. Call 978-283-2131 for more information.

Note: Fuel assistance eligibility doesn't mean automatic qualification for any program.

WEATHERIZATION - Federally funded. The Weatherization Program is designed to help you keep the heat in your home. If your income falls within the guidelines, and your place of residence has not been weatherized (insulated and weather-stripped) by Action since September 30, 1992, you may qualify for this program. Note: You may be a homeowner or renter to be eligible.

KEYSPAN ENERGY PROGRAM A weatherization program for those who heat with Keyspan Energy. Includes insulation and weather-stripping. You must be receiving the Keyspan Financial Discount Heating Rate on your bill to be eligible. Note: You may be a homeowner or tenant to be eligible.

APPLIANCE MANAGEMENT PROGRAM - Mass Electric funded. You must have lived at your current address for at least one year, have an R-2 rating on your bill, and use more than 13 KWH per day to be eligible. An Energy Manager will review your electric usage especially your refrigerator. If your refrigerator or freezer is a high energy guzzler, Mass Electric may replace it for free. If you have a water bed mattress, Mass Electric may replace it with a regular mattress for free if you choose. The Energy Manager will bring energy saving light bulbs and water conservation devices and inform you on how you can save on your electric bill. Note: You may be a homeowner or tenant to be eligible.

HEARTWAP - Federally funded. HEARTWAP is an emergency program to help homeowners on Fuel Assistance, who meet income or crisis guidelines, repair or replace their heating systems. Note: This program is only for homeowners.

DISCOUNTS AVAILABLE - Fuel Assistance clients may also be eligible for discounts on utility bills as follows:

* Keyspan (Boston, Essex, and Colonial Gas Companies)

  • Approximately (20) percent discount*.
  • Rate is self-explanatory on your bill.

* Essex County Gas Company

  • (20) percent discount*.
  • Residential heating rate will change from R-03 to R-04.
  • Secondary users (non-heat) will change from R-01 to R-02.

* Massachusetts Electric Company

  • (33) percent discount*.
  • Rate will change from R-1 to R-2.
  • Billing name must be exact name of fuel assistance applicant.

* Verizon

  • $9.50 discount on basic monthly bill.

*Discounts are recalculated annually.

Note: In most cases, Fuel Assistance client must also be the customer name printed on the bill to receive discount.

MOR PRICE - Fuel Assistance clients will receive a discount on their oil usage until their fuel assistance benefits are exhausted.
