 GHS
Satellite Day Program
During the
school year,
Compass partners with Gloucester High School to
help 15-20 juniors and seniors who are facing barriers to learning
in the traditional school environment. We provide an alternative high
school education for credit, five days a week from 8:40
am to 2:00 pm Monday-Friday. The Satellite Day Program
features small classes, a strict attendance policy, and
one-on-one attention.
Night Diploma Program
Our Night
Diploma Program is designed
for Gloucester students who left high school without
their diploma. They must have at least 90 credits and
need fewer than four core classes. Students work on
independent studies Monday-Thursday from 3:30 to 6:30 pm
under COMPASS staff supervision. Upon
completion of courses, they are awarded
their high school diploma.
General Education Diploma
(GED) Preparation
We offer GED preparation for 16-21
year olds in the following communities: Gloucester,
Essex, Ipswich, Rockport, Hamilton, Wenham, and
Manchester-by-the-Sea. The program runs in eight-week
cycles beginning at the end of September, with an
additional seven-week summer program. Students are given
the TABE (Test of Adult Basic Education) to assess their
reading and math levels and develop an education plan.
GED tutoring is provided four evenings per week. Once
all subjects are mastered, students are registered to
take the GED exam at one the North Shore Community
College campuses. All program participants also receive
computer skills training and college/career development.
