Action, Inc. of Cape Ann hosted its 41st Annual Meeting on Wednesday evening, June 14, 2006, at the Rockport Country Club.  Essex District Attorney Jonathan W. Blodgett was the evening’s featured speaker.

Since 1965, Action, Inc. has been dedicated to improving the lives of residents of Essex, Gloucester, Ipswich, Manchester, and Rockport.

This year’s dinner and awards ceremony was dedicated to the memory of Scott Thorndike, known to Cape Ann citizens for his efforts on behalf of Project Uplift, Action’s annual holiday toy and clothing drive for children.

Action’s annual meeting celebrates and acknowledges individuals who have offered outstanding support for the organization’s community service programs.  Awardees for 2006 included:

Charles Foster -- recipient of the Rev. Forrest Clark Award for his service to Action and the Community over the past 20 years;

Rev. Karin Wade, an Action Board member -- in appreciation for her dedication to the Homeless Programs;

Scott Thorndike -- for his tireless work with Elder Volunteer Services, and his coordination of Project Uplift;

Richard Gaines, Times reporter – in appreciation for his stories and articles that so aptly describe Action’s mission and services to the community;

Roger Lesch, Action Board member -- in appreciation for his efforts above and beyond expectations, in organizing and planning activities such as the Annual Meeting and Project Uplift in Rockport; and

U.S. Representative John F. Tierney -– the recipient of a Public Service Award for his leadership in the US House of Representative and his support of programs that assist low-income families.
