What is the HiSET?

Massachusetts residents who have not earned a high school diploma may be able to earn the Massachusetts High School Equivalency Credential by passing the HiSET assessment that has replaced the GED in the Commonwealth.

The HiSET is a battery of five subtests that measure whether an individual's knowledge and skills in reading, writing, social studies, science, and math are equivalent to that of a high school graduate.

Obtaining the HiSET enables residents to:

Enroll in college

Apply for jobs or training that require a high school diploma

Open up future career and educational opportunities
